Anything can be…

Anything can be

When I hear the words “Anything can happen“, I never know exactly what to think. One one hand I hear that little voice inside my head urging me to keep moving forward with my latest project. At the same time, however, I also hear a slightly more menacing voice uttering those same words but with a completely different meaning — be careful, anything can happen.

In other words, you might might embarrass yourself (again) and end up looking like a complete idiot.

I secretly admire the fearlessness of children and their willingness to try almost anything. They don’t sit around and worry about failing or wonder what everyone else is going to think of them, they just try something and see what happens. Sometimes it works out for them and sometimes it doesn’t, but the important thing is that they never let the fear of trying get in the way.

Life is simply too short.

Don’t waste your time with the doubters.  There will always be people out there telling you that what you want to do is impossible.  They will insist that you are simply setting yourself up for failure and that you’ll eventually regret all the time you spent chasing impossible dreams.

They have their own reasons for encouraging you to give up. Maybe they want to protect you and maybe they just don’t want to see you get hurt. Then again, maybe they don’t want you to leave them behind.  Maybe they were too scared to pursue their own goals so it is painful to watch anyone else who has the courage to chase their dreams.

Listen to the doubters, but stick with the dreamers. In the end, you might not get everything you thought you wanted, but you will have a lot more fun along the way.

“Listen to the mustn’ts, child. Listen to the don’ts.
Listen to the shouldn’ts, the impossibles, the won’ts.
Listen to the never haves, then listen close to me…
Anything can happen, child. Anything can be.”
~Shel Silverstein
