All we have to decide

3
All we have to decide is what to do

We often spend so much of our day frantically running from place to place trying to check the items off our to-do list, that we forget — We forget that we have a choice.

We forget that despite what we may tell ourselves as our exhausted little head hits the pillow at night, that we are the ones who decide what gets done and what things are ignored.

We may not always recognize it (or even believe it), but somewhere along the way, it is our past choices that have brought us to where we are today.

To accept this, however, means that we also have to accept the responsibility of those choices. Both the choices we are proud of, and ones we would rather forget.

We can fill our days with creation or consumption.

We can choose to please others or ourselves.

We can do what is expected of us, or we can create the life that we once imagined.

It’s up to us to decide what to do with the time that has been given to us.

Everything else is just a suggestion.

“All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us.”
~J.R.R. Tolkien
