We learn from those around us

3

When we start out as aspiring writers or artists, we imagine that creativity is something that arrives in a magical dream. It is a gift that we are given to share with the world.

Except it’s not.

Despite what you may have read on the internet, creativity is not about being inspired or having a direct hotline to a creative muse, like anything else, it’s about learning from those around us and then finding a way to offer our unique interpretation of that information to others. It’s not about plagiarism or imitation, it’s simply about building on what has been done before.

The great secret of creativity then is that we don’t have to come up with something the world has never seen before. We only have to see it from a new perspective.
