Trying to Please Everybody is Impossible

Trying to please everybody John Lennon quote

Haters are gonna hate

Let’s face it, we’re never going to make everyone happy.

No matter what we create or how we choose to live our life, there will always be somebody out there who doesn’t like what we do.

We can’t afford to water down our art in order to make people like us more.

Those who end up liking what we do will become our fans, our audience, and maybe someday our paying customers. Those who don’t like what we do, will eventually move on to something else.

That doesn’t mean that we should ignore any kind of feedback from our audience, it just means that it’s impossible to make everyone happy or try to guess what other people want.

Our job is to create

It’s not our job as creative artists to try to make people like us. Our job is to simply find our own path and then do the best we can with what we have to give.

“Trying to please everybody is impossible — if you did that, you’d end up in the middle with nobody liking you. You’ve just got to make the decision about what you think is your best, and do it.” ~John Lennon

  1. So true.
It can be hard when you want to please your clients, but they don’t understand how much of your energy goes into creating, so you need to bless yourself for the best job you’ve done at your best ability, and don’t beat yourself up if they don’t like it. It’s their issue,

    1. You’re right Carol, there is a fine line between trying to please your clients without hating yourself in the morning. I think there will always be something we would like to go back and change when we finish a particular work, but we also have to know when it’s time to move on. So all we can do is just give what we have and then let it go. Not only the work itself, but the second-guessing and the criticisms as well.
