How to Use Skinny News

Watch the video and see how you can become a part of Skinny News on Art!

With your help (more on this in a moment) we are going to be gathering all of the best blog posts and news articles about art from around the web and sharing them here in one convenient location. These are art news stories, videos, and blog posts that have been submitted by artists just like you from around the world.

Now of course by “artist” we don’t just mean visual artists, but also writers, photographers, graphic artists, musicians, etc… Like other social bookmarking sites, you’ll be able to easily save, share, and vote on all of your favorite articles.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Why should I get involved?

I’m going to tell you up front — this site could turn out to be really cool or could completely suck, and it’s all going to depend on how many people like you we can get involved submitting new articles to us on a regular basis.

Let’s face it, nobody is going to keep coming back to a “latest art news” website where the content never changes. So it’s going to be up to you, and hopefully a lot of your fellow Skinny Artist community members, to make this a site worth reading.

Now in order to keep this from becoming a spammer’s paradise, all we ask is that you take a moment to register and become a member of the site.  Luckily this only takes about two minutes and of course is completely free. We’ll show you how to get started below.

What kind of articles can I submit to the site?

As I mentioned before, this will be a community-sourced site where members like you will be able to submit links to articles that will be bookmarked on the site.  In order to keep it focused as much as possible, we would prefer that you only submit articles about art or art-related topics.

Now I realize that “art” is a fairly broad and subjective topic, but if you are actually wanting to show us how to lose weight, improve our love life, or send us to some crappy sales site — please don’t waste our time or yours.

Again, the articles you submit can be anything “art” related as in writing, graphic arts, visual arts, photography, etc. This includes news articles from websites, online newspapers, or even your favorite art blog.  In other words, if you enjoyed reading it, then we want to read it too!

Won’t I get in trouble if I publish someone else’s article?

Like other bookmarking sites, we are not actually re-publishing the article, we are simply providing a link back to the original article.  So for example if I bookmarked (or “submitted”) an article that was on your website. If someone wanted to read it, they would click on the link and then be redirected to your website. This means that you not only get full credit for writing the article, but your website would also be getting more traffic, free publicity, and a valuable backlink as well.

Ummm…. is it okay for me to submit stuff from my own website?

Of course, as long as you follow a few basic guidelines.  It’s perfectly okay to share a favorite post or two from your own site, and I think you’ll discover that it’s a great way to have a lot of new people check out your cool website, but please don’t be one of those people who submits everything on their site.  Think of it this way, we want to read your best work, but not everything you’ve ever written.  Please share responsibly!

So how do I get started?

If you haven’t already, you just need to register to become a member of the site, which again will take like two minutes and is completely free.

Then you can either copy and paste the link to the original article, or you can simply drag our handy dandy “Submit Article” button to your browser’s toolbar and then just click on it whenever you are reading an article online that you would like to share.

Once you submit a link, you will have a chance to edit the Title and the Description of the article.  You will also be able to add subject tags (optional) and choose a category that most closely matches the content of the article.  If you’re not sure which one to pick, or none of them seem to really fit, you can always use the default “Art News” category.

Finally you’ll need to choose an image for the post.  Usually you’ll be able to use the “featured image” on the original post by clicking on the little arrow on the “Select from Source URL” and then scroll down to find a suitable image. Once you find an image, just click on it and it will be automatically added to the post.

If for whatever reason you can’t find an image from the original site, you can use one of our “Stock Images” by clicking the arrow, scrolling down, and then clicking on the best available options.

That’s all there is to it!  I really hope you enjoy the new site and thanks again for being a part of the Skinny Artist creative community 🙂
